Monday, January 19, 2004ESPN has been discussing fighting in the NHL. I'm on the "Fighting is totally stupid" side. There's no point in it. High School, college, and Olympic hockey somehow manage to get along without it. European leagues manage to get along without it. Why should NHL hockey be any different? Why should every team be forced to carry a no-talent goon whose basic role is to fight? Why should you be able to do things on an NHL hockey rink that you can't do in a pickup game at your local rink? Until the NHL gets rid of fighting, it will always be just a few steps ahead of professional wrestling, and a few notches below professional baseball, basketball and football.[Permalink] (0) comments
