Lots of folks want Mitt Romney to be the Republican nominee for President in 2008. Naturally, his Mormonism is an issue, and there is a question as to whether us Evangelical types will support him.Well, if I had the chance to ask ol' Mitt one question, this would be the question:
"Gov. Romney -- you profess Mormon beliefs. Since Mormon doctrine holds that all Mormon men who are found worthy will get to be the god of their own planet (just as the god of our planet was found to be worthy to rule over us), do you aspire to be found worthy and someday be made the god of your own planet?

Your question drills down on a doctrine Latter-day Saints have always been criticized for. A doctrine that is conveniently misrepresented. Should Kennedy have been asked about Transubstantiation? Should Bush have been asked how
2 Thessalonians 1:6-9 will play out? I'm all for people of faith that have high moral standards in office, like Bush or Romney, or a devout Jew or Muslim. They typically have a view of the Constitution and government that harkens back to the founders. That's a step in the right direction.

Yeah, I agree with the previous post. Why caricature a different religion like that? Mormons believe they need to be saved by Jesus Christ. They believe Jesus is everything that the New Testament says he is. I wish there were more resources out there that were easily accessible for this, but why not try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exaltation_%28Mormonism%29

"Dude if you join the mormon church you'll get your own planet." That's just silly, and I don't think there are any mormons that actually believe it that way. Well, maybe some weird ones.

One more comment.
Mormons don't believe that Jesus is sufficient to save them. They don't believe that he is everything that the Bible says he is. For instance, Mormonism doesn't believe in the Trinity. They believe that God was once a man.
"As Man is, God once was. As God is, Man may become" is the common Mormon aphorism.
